Baku Forum on Sustainable Development was held in October

Baku Forum on Sustainable Development was held on October 25-26. Within the framework of the forum, the adoption of the Baku Declaration on the results of the "Integration, acceleration and policy support" (MAPS) mission and the signing of a cooperation agreement by the Government of Azerbaijan and the UN Economic Commission for Europe are planned.

This was reported at the next meeting of the National Coordinating Council for Sustainable Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan held in the Cabinet of Ministers on June 28.

Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Coordinating Council for Sustainable Development Ali Ahmadov said that the Baku Forum will be organized on the theme of expanding international and regional partnership in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The forum will be organized by the National Coordinating Council for Sustainable Development, the Ministry of Economy and the Azerbaijan Delegation to the UN. The participation of UN leaders and international experts is planned in the forum.

The Chairman of the Council noted that the second Voluntary National Report of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Sustainable Development Goals will be presented to the High-Level Political Forum in the summer of 2019. Adaptation of SDG to national development programs is one of the main tasks and this is a very important issue.

Then Deputy Minister of Economy Sevinj Hasanova, who gave information about the Baku Forum on Sustainable Development, said that the forum will consist of 6 sessions. 250 people are expected to participate in the event, including high-level representatives of the UN, representatives of Eastern and Central European and Central Asian countries, as well as international experts.

In addition, during the forum, in order to promote the goals of the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development until 2030, encourage innovation, as well as to support the implementation of the Development Concept "Azerbaijan 2020: a vision of the future" and Strategic Roadmaps for the main sectors of the national economy and economy, Economy, Transport, The awarding ceremony of the Second Republican Innovation Competition jointly announced by the Ministry of Communications and High Technologies, the State Agency for Citizen Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the National Academy of Sciences and the Azerbaijan representation of the UN will be held.

At the meeting, issues such as the creation of a working group and organization committee for the organization of the forum, the draft of the agenda and the draft of the Baku Declaration were considered.

The meeting also discussed the reconciliation of state programs and strategies covering socio-economic fields in the country with the SDG, prioritization of goals and the results of the MAPS report. The implementation of the goals arising from the Sendai Framework Document on Disaster Risk Reduction (2015-2030) at the national level, as well as the coordination of the preparation of the national strategy for disaster risk reduction by the Council, were also considered.

In the end, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Coordinating Council for Sustainable Development Ali Ahmadov gave instructions to the relevant institutions regarding the preparation of the second Voluntary National Report of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Sustainable Development Goals and the organization of the Baku Forum on Sustainable Development.
